Using the Conditional Merge Macro to create new layers from existing data

Create an original text layer

A. Make your orig layer: first duplicate the tok layer and rename the new layer orig.

B. Open the Conditional Merge macro; do NOT select any column. Using the top option, enter orig into the left box (Column with cells to merge>Column Header), and enter norm in the right box (Merge based on >Column Header). This will take the data in the orig column and make it the same span or size as in the norm column.

Create an original text bound group layer

A. Make your orig_group layer: first duplicate the tok layer and rename the new layer orig_group.

B. Open the Conditional Merge macro; do NOT select any column. Using the top option, enter orig_group into the left box (Column with cells to merge>Column Header), and enter norm_group in the right box (Merge based on >Column Header). This will take the data in the orig_group column and make it the same span or size as in the norm_group column. In otherwords, it will turn all your words and morphemes into bound groups

Create a normalized bound group layer

A. Make a norm_group layer: first duplicate the norm layer and rename the new layer norm_group.

  • If you already have a norm_group layer that you are trying to update, start afresh. Rename the existing norm_group layer something else (such as ignore:norm_group). Then start afresh by creating a new layer. Delete the old layer (i.e., ignore:norm_group) when you are finished and satisfied with the results of steps A & B.

B. Open the Conditional Merge macro; do NOT select any column. Using the top option, enter norm_group into the left box (Column with cells to merge>Column Header), and enter orig_group in the right box (Merge based on >Column Header). This will take the data in the norm_group column and make it the same span or size as in the orig_group column. In otherwords, it will turn all your words and morphemes into bound groups
